world wildlife day

illustration & motion | advertisement

The goal of this project was improve an old project. I took a poster that I had designed for World Wildlife Day and I made it into a short video clip that would play as an advertisement. I decided to turn a poster into a video because people don't pay much attention to poster nowadays unless it's something very extreme. My original poster was simple and the graphics were fine, but it didn't stand out. The best way to reach a wide audience is to take it online and that also allows us to see the feedback: who interacted with the video, who liked it, and more. The video also contains a call-to-action at the end unlike my original poster

storyboard of the original video idea

First, I sketched the storyboard for the video. The idea was to keep it very short as people have a short attention span. I decided to keep all of the original graphics from the poster in my storyboard.

Next, I decided to update all my graphics. I also had to make them video friendly as my earth didn't have all the continents and my illustratons were all one piece which didn't work with my ideas.

Lastly, I imported it into After Effects. It took a lot of time as there were over 200 layers. I went with a simple animation style that had little natural movement to fit with the geometric graphics.
